Habitat for Humanity Metro Denver is completing its first LEED-certified residence and anticipates achieving LEED Silver certification in June 2009. The duplex project features:
- close proximity to mass-transit transportation
- use of previously-developed land and existing infrastructure
- access to open space
- native and drought-tolerant landscaping
- high-efficiency fixtures (low-flow faucets, showers, and toilets)
- 35-40% greater energy efficiency than standard homes
- healthy indoor air quality through proper ventilation and the use of low/no-VOC materials
- over 50% reduction in construction waste due to recycling and material reuse
- greater durability via durability planning and inspections
